Expert Glaucoma Treatment: Preserve Your Eye Health

If medication can't control your glaucoma, laser treatment or surgery may be needed to reduce eye pressure and preserve your vision. Mr Ian Ambrose is an expert in various glaucoma surgical and laser treatments, meaning he is able to recommend the best approach for your specific condition.

Glaucoma Treatment Options

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT)

SLT is a highly effective alternative to eye drops. This precise laser treatment targets your eye's drainage system, improving fluid outflow and reducing eye pressure.

Laser Peripheral Iridotomy (LPI)

This procedure uses a laser to create a tiny hole in your iris, allowing fluid to drain more easily from your eye. It's especially helpful for people with narrow drainage angles that obstruct the eye's natural fluid flow.

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery

Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery uses tiny devices to enhance the eye's natural drainage. These procedures offer quicker recovery and fewer complications than traditional surgery. Mr. Ambrose is skilled in techniques such as:

  • iStent: A tiny implant, smaller than 2mm, is placed in the eye's drainage channel to improve fluid outflow. Often combined with cataract surgery, it's very safe and effective
  • PreserFlo Microshunt: This advanced device provides a long-term solution for glaucoma drainage.
  • OMNI viscocanalostomy and trabeculotomy - that uses a tiny device to widen the eye's natural drainage channels and lower eye pressure.

Traditional Glaucoma Surgery

  • Trabeculectomy: This creates a new opening in the eye wall for fluid drainage. A trapdoor is fashioned out of the sclera and flow regulated by releasable sutures in the flap.  This creates a low pressure sump known as a 'bleb'.
  • Tube Shunt: For advanced or complex glaucoma, a tube shunt may be needed. This involves implanting a small tube to drain fluid from the eye to a reservoir under the conjunctiva.

Glaucoma Treatment Recovery

Mr. Ambrose provides thorough post-operative care, monitoring your healing and progress. Mr. Ambrose will explain your post-treatment care in detail, including instructions for your medications, which activities to avoid, and when to return for follow-up visits.
