Expert Cataract Treatment: Restoring Your Vision

About Cataract Surgery

During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens in your eye is replaced with an artificial lens called an intraocular lens (IOL). There are different types of IOLs to suit your vision needs and lifestyle.

Types of Intraocular Lenses

  • Monofocal Lenses: These are the most basic type of IOL, providing clear vision at one specific distance. They are usually set for distance vision, which is excellent for activities like driving or watching TV. However, you will likely need reading glasses for close-up tasks like reading a book or using your phone.

  • Extended Depth of Focus Lenses (EDOF): These lenses are a step up from monofocal lenses, offering clear distance vision with an improved range of focus. They provide an extended range of function than monofocal lenses, making activities like using a computer more comfortable. However, while they reduce your reliance on reading glasses for some intermediate tasks, you'll probably still need them for very close-up activities.

  • Multifocal Lenses: These are the most advanced type of IOL, designed to provide clear vision at multiple distances. They function much like bifocal or progressive eyeglasses, reducing your need for glasses after surgery. While they offer the greatest freedom from glasses, it's important to be aware that multifocal lenses may sometimes cause glare or halos, especially in low-light conditions.

YAG Laser Capsulotomy

Mr Ian Ambrose also offers YAG Laser Capsulotomy.

YAG laser capsulotomy is a non-invasive procedure used to treat posterior capsule opacification (PCO), a common complication following cataract surgery. During the procedure, a YAG laser creates a small opening in the clouded capsule behind the lens implant, restoring clear vision. It is quick, painless, and performed in an outpatient setting, offering patients an effective solution for improved visual clarity without significant downtime.
